Our view of the service

British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) Birmingham South is operated by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) and is a not-for-profit charitable organisation. BPAS Birmingham South offers consultation, medical assessment, sexual health services, counselling and contraceptive advice services. The service provides early medical abortion up to nine weeks and six days gestation and surgical abortion under local anaesthetic up to 13 weeks and six days gestation. Surgical abortion under conscious sedation can be provided up to 17 weeks and six days. Surgical abortions under general anaesthetic were also available and this was 1 of only 5 services in the country offering this treatment option.

We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating. We rated the service good overall. This means people were safe, received effective care and treatment, and experienced services that were caring, responsive and well led.
