Our view of the service
We carried out this assessment as the service had not been inspected since July 2022 when it was rated as requires improvement.
This was an announced comprehensive inspection on Tuesday 24 March 2026. During the inspection we attended the treatment room and the pre-operative and post-operative recovery areas. The inspection was undertaken by 2 CQC inspectors and a specialist advisor with an expertise in termination of pregnancy with support from an offsite inspection manager.
During this inspection we observed patient interactions, looked at 9 sets of clinical notes, observed 1 surgical abortion and spoke with 3 patients and 9 members of staff.
We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating. We rated the service good in all quality statements with a combined rating of good overall.
People's experience of this service
People were treated with kindness, respect and dignity. We observed staff interacting with patients in a compassionate and caring manner, taking time to provide reassurance and support. People said they did not feel anxious about raising concerns. They said they were seen quickly and felt cared for, listened to, and fully informed of the treatment options.
Feedback from relatives and partners was positive; they told us they felt emotionally supported and spoke highly of the care provided. Patient satisfaction survey results were largely positive, indicating that people had a good overall experience of the service.
