Our view of the service

HeartScan Limited (Ltd) is an independent healthcare service. It is registered to provide cardiac diagnostic and screening procedures for children aged 14 to 17, adults aged 18 to 65, and adults aged over 65.

A large proportion of the service’s work is cardiac sports screening for professional sports organisations and football clubs. However, we did not inspect this aspect of the service, as it is exempt from regulation and not within the scope of this assessment.

The service has one clinic per week, 1pm to 4pm every Tuesday, located at the Osborne Clinic, Newcastle. There is a large consulting room on the ground floor, which is rented from the Osborne Clinic. On average, the service sees 4 patients per week.

The service provides cardiology diagnostic and screening procedures, specifically, electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, and 24-hour to 14-day ambulatory ECGs. Most patients self-refer, although some are referred by GPs and other referrers.

This assessment was risk based and prompted due to the age of the rating. We conducted this short notice announced assessment on 23 June 2026 and assessed 31 quality statements across the safe, effective, responsive caring and well-led key questions. We did not assess quality statements relating to medicines optimisation and planning for the future, as these were not relevant for this service.

We visited clinical areas and spoke with clinical staff, the registered manager, reception staff and people who used the service. We looked at patient’s healthcare records, policies, procedures, and other documents related to the running of the service.

We rated the service as requires improvement.
