Equity in access

Score: 2

The 2025 National GP Patient Survey (GPPS) results were in line with the local and national average. Overall, 77% of patients rated their experience of contacting the practice as good, and 66% found it easy to contact the practice by telephone. Since the assessment, the GPPS have published new results in July 2026. The new data demonstrated similar patient response to 2025.

The practice was open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 6.30pm, with access to out-of-hours services during evenings and weekends. Reception staff triaged patients contacting the practice by telephone and directed them to the most appropriate clinician. However, at the time of the assessment, staff had not completed care navigation training and there was no clear guidance in place to support this process. Although guidance was submitted after the assessment, it did not provide sufficient detail to support safe and consistent decision-making, such as information on presenting conditions or clinicians’ scope of practice.

The practice provided longer appointments for patients with a learning disability or mental health condition to support equitable access to care. Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor and there were level access and an automatic door at the entrance to the practice.

At the time of the site visit, the TV screen in the reception area was not functioning. This may have affected people's ability to access important information, updates, and communications that are normally displayed on the screen.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 2

The 2025 National GP Patient Survey (GPPS) feedback was positive, with 90% of patients reporting that their needs were met. Since the assessment, GPPS have published new results in July 2026. The new data suggests a slight decline with 87% of people responding positively. The practice had systems in place to support registration for vulnerable groups, including people experiencing homelessness and travellers. Staff had completed training to help them understand and respond to the needs of people who may be at greater risk of experiencing inequalities in access, experience, or outcomes.

The practice had recently improved accessibility within the premises and provided a hearing loop and translation services. The practice manager advised that an annual meeting was held for carers.

However, during the assessment, the practice was unable to demonstrate how it identified and addressed potential barriers to care or tailored support and treatment for people most likely to experience health inequalities.
