Shared direction and culture

The provider had a mission statement that stated the practice was committed to raising the standards of clinical care for patients by offering a wide range of services, ensuring all communication with patients is clear and comprehensive and providing systemic education for all staff.

Staff we spoke to told us they were supportive of and supported by the leadership and management team, the culture and direction of the service, and each other. Staff told us leaders were approachable and took the time to listen. There was an appropriate whistleblowing procedure, which staff understood and could navigate to.

The practice was applying to become a teaching and training practice for GPs

The service had a realistic strategy and supporting business plans to achieve priorities. The provider monitored progress against delivery of the strategy.

Governance, management and sustainability

The service was part of a well-established provider organisation with governance arrangements and appropriate policies. The organisation provided HR support and leadership oversight, with information from monthly operational and quarterly clinical governance meetings reported to the Director of Operations and Chief Executive. Any concerns or issues were escalated to the Human Resources Director and Medical Director, who reported directly to the Chief Executive.

Staff had clear roles, responsibilities, and governance systems to support sustainable care. Leaders used reliable data on risk, performance, and outcomes. Staff were well-supported, understood their roles, and received regular appraisals. Governance processes were mostly well-established, with accessible policies and procedures. Leaders held regular meetings to address clinical concerns and risks, recording and sharing actions clearly. Staff demonstrated a commitment to confidentiality and information security. However, further work was required to demonstrate how the leaders were assured of some clinical staff’s competency.
