Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Score: 3

The provider planned and delivered people’s care and treatment with them, including what was important and mattered to them. They did this in line with legislation and current evidence-based good practice and standards. One person said, “They [staff] always talk about what I want from them. I like my independence, so I am encouraged with this. When I have a shower, they set everything up for me but wait outside the bathroom. They're there if needed but not when I don’t.”

People’s nutrition and hydration needs were met by kitchen staff who provided a range of home cooked foods and varied drinks. People and their families said that meals were good. One person said, “They will make something specially for you if you don't want what's on the menu. There is more than enough to eat. No-one should be hungry.”

There was a snack and drink ‘station’ for people to help themselves whenever they needed additional nutrition or were thirsty. We noted a small number of people who may have lacked capacity and had been assessed as choke risk used this area and were able to access foods which placed them at risk of choking. We brought this to the attention of the management team to review immediately.
