Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 17 March 2025 to 20 March 2025. Astor Court is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 43 people who have physical and mental health conditions. At the time of the inspection 36 people used the service.
This inspection was planned to follow up on concerns received regarding care provided. We found no evidence to support these allegations.
A registered manager was in post.
Medicines were generally well managed. We gave feedback on procedures regarding homely medicines, creams and storage which was addressed by the provider. There was enough staff to meet people’s needs and protect them from harm. Staff were kind and caring. There were new activity staff in place to enhance social engagement.
People were provided with adequate food and drink, including specialised diets. Staff told us they were well led and worked with a dedicated team.
The home was clean and tidy. Some parts of the garden areas required work to update them and allow the areas to be utilised fully. This was planned by the provider. We will check this at our next assessment. Governance procedures were in place and were currently being updated after feedback.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives were very positive about the care and support they received. People felt safe and commented on the dedicated staff who supported them.
People and their relatives told us staff were kind and helpful. Comments from people and relatives included, “I came here from hospital and it’s great. Yes, I am safe, and I have new friends”; “They’re really good here, they really are”; “They know how to look after [person] because we talk about her and what she needs as well as what she likes. If things change, they let me know straight away” and “The care [person] has had is nothing short of phenomenal. I know she is loved.”
