We looked for evidence that the service met people’s needs.
At our last inspection we rated this key question good. At this inspection the rating has remained good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Person-centred Care
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
At each satellite clinic we observed that there was good provision for disabled people to access the service. Service users were able to express a different location as their preference by contacting the service, although the option to request this wasn’t always clearly demonstrated.
Care provision, Integration and continuity
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
Staff in the sonography clinics we inspected demonstrated an awareness of the diverse health and care needs of their local communities.
We saw a recent experience report that demonstrated that no service user in ultrasound or MRI had waited longer than 6 weeks for an appointment, except in cases where they had cancelled and rebooked. We noted from further previous reports that this was typical for the service.
Providing Information
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
We observed that managers knew which external bodies should receive notifications and in what circumstances. For example, we saw that the service had anonymised data following an incident and reported this to the Great Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB) for their attention.
Listening to and involving people
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
We spoke with service users at a sonography clinic who all demonstrated an understanding of how to raise a complaint or provide feedback if they should have any and would feel comfortable doing so.
Equity in access
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
We observed a clinical episode where a service user attended in a wheelchair for an ultrasound scan, where their accessibility requirements had not been made clear on the referral. The sonographer took note of these requirements when they observed the service user in the waiting room and was prepared to undertake the scan in a way that met the their needs, if they advised that the use of the couch was inappropriate. Sonographers additionally described the typical modifications they may need to make for people with disabilities.
A telephone interpretation service was available for staff at satellite clinics. However, staff did not identify the safeguarding risks associated with a service user having a friend or relative to translate for them.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
This section was assessed using findings that are applicable to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
Planning for the future
This section was partly assessed using findings that apply to the whole Parkway site, which are included in the appropriate section of the surgery report.
Staff advised us that discussions about the service user’s management plan were not held routinely as this was managed by the referrer. We observed that staff spoke with people at the conclusion of the scan about the next steps and advised how long it usually takes for the results to be fed back to each person.
