This means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence.

This is the first assessment for this service, this key question was rated as good. This meant peoples outcomes were consistently good, and feedback confirmed this.

We reviewed all 6 quality statements for effective. This included assessing needs, delivering evidenced based care and treatment, how staff, teams and services work together, supporting patients to live healthier lives, monitoring and improving outcomes and consent to care and treatment. We found:

Care and treatment were delivered in line with current national guidance and evidence-based practice. The registered manager regularly reflected on and reviewed the service to ensure care remained appropriate and in the best interests of babies receiving treatment.

Before any procedure was carried out, the registered manager ensured informed consent had been obtained through a well-established consent process. We observed the registered manager discussing feeding concerns with caregivers, assessing the baby and providing feeding support prior to treatment.

Following the frenulotomy procedure, the registered manager monitored the baby while feeding to check they were able to latch effectively and feeding had not been adversely affected.

Caregivers were provided with individualised advice and practical guidance to help them support their baby after treatment and understand any ongoing care needs
