Caring

Good

27 July 2026

We found the endoscopy service provided compassionate, person-centred care. Patients told us they were treated with kindness, dignity and respect, and staff involved them in decisions about their care and treatment. Staff responded appropriately to patients' individual needs, including those who were anxious or distressed, and supported them in a way that protected their rights and wellbeing.

Care was delivered in a safe and supportive manner, with staff working alongside patients to understand and manage risks while enabling them to achieve the best possible outcomes. Patients' preferences and wishes were considered throughout their care.

At this assessment, we rated the endoscopy service as good for caring. This reflected that patients were consistently treated with compassion and their needs were respected.

We have not awarded this service a score for Caring.

As Buckshaw Hospital's endoscopy service operated on a day-case basis, staff encouraged patients to maintain their independence where appropriate. Patients were offered refreshments once clinically appropriate and received support based on their individual needs.

The service provided accessible facilities and made reasonable adjustments to support patients with mobility or additional needs. Staff worked with other services when necessary to support safe discharge arrangements, including onward care where required. Transport arrangements were available for patients who needed assistance returning home.
