Our view of the service

Medical services at Buckshaw Hospital provided endoscopy procedures.

Patients who attended Buckshaw Hospital for an endoscopy procedure used the same waiting room and ward as the surgical patients.

One theatre was used for endoscopy procedures. At the inspection the endoscopy list was in the morning and the surgical list was in the afternoon.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with patients using the endoscopy service at Buckshaw Hospital. Patients were consistently positive about their experience and told us staff were welcoming, kind and professional throughout their care.

Patients said staff explained procedures clearly, kept them informed about their care and treatment, and took time to answer questions and provide reassurance. On the day of inspection, patients told us staff kept them updated when delays occurred as a result of IT issues, and communication throughout this period was clear and timely.

Patients described the environment as comfortable and said staff responded promptly when support was needed. They told us they were treated with dignity and respect and felt well supported before, during and after their procedure.

Patients also told us the service was efficient, with appointments generally running smoothly and discharge arrangements clearly explained.

The hospital monitored patient experience through the Friends and Family Test (FFT). Hospital-wide data for February showed that 118 patients completed the survey, with 95% rating their experience as very good, 3% as good and 2% as poor. This feedback related to the hospital as a whole and was not specific to the endoscopy service.
