CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
Our purpose
We regulate health and adult social care, we work together with the public, systems and providers of care to protect people, and to promote and improve the quality of care.
Our vision
Everyone receives safe, effective and compassionate care.
Our regulatory role requires us to:
- register care providers
- monitor, inspect and rate services
- take action to protect people who use services
- speak with our independent voice, publishing our views on major quality issues in health and social care.
Throughout our work we:
- Protect the rights of vulnerable people, including those restricted under the Mental Health Act.
- Listen to and act on people’s experiences of care
- Involve the public and people who receive care
- Work with other organisations and public groups.
