Shared direction and culture

The provider had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality and human rights, diversity and inclusion, engagement, and understanding challenges and the needs of people and their communities. People were actively supported to be part of their community, and their independence was promoted through choices offered and the running of their home.

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

The provider had inclusive leaders at all levels who understood the context in which they delivered care, treatment and support and embodied the culture and values of their workforce and organisation. The registered manager took a very hands-on approach and supported people directly alongside the staff team. This meant they knew people exceptionally well and were able to lead by example. A staff member said, “[Registered Manager] is a very approachable person.”

Freedom to speak up

The provider fostered a positive culture where people felt they could speak up and their voice would be heard. Staff told us they felt confident with approaching the provider with any concerns they had and action being taken.

Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion

The provider valued diversity in their workforce. They worked towards an inclusive and fair culture by improving equality and equity for people who worked for them. We observed the service was staffed by a diverse staff team. A relative was complimentary on how this promoted their loved one to have support and understanding in area that were culturally important to them as well as being able to experience other cultures.

Governance, management and sustainability

Overall, the provider had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. Since our last inspection, the provider has reviewed and improved their systems and processes for monitoring service quality, leading them to make changes to these audits and to how they were delegated.

Partnerships and communities

Score: 3

The provider understood their duty to collaborate and work in partnership, so services worked seamlessly for people. They shared information and learning with partners and collaborated for improvement. A relative told us their loved one’s keyworker kept them informed and would call them if there were important changes to communicate.

Learning, improvement and innovation

Score: 3

Since our last inspection, the provider has made improvements in areas such as managing medicines safely and improving environmental safety. The provider is also now working with an independent consultant to sustain improvements long-term and develop continuous improvement plans.

There were several planned improvements we observed in progress since our last inspection. For example, the provider was in the process of building a gym within the service to promote people’s health. The provider was reviewing their options for moving towards electronic care planning to improve efficiency and effectiveness in maintaining quality.
