Equity in access
The 2026 National GP Patient Survey showed staff ensured patients could mostly access the care, support, and treatment they needed in a timely way. 84% of respondents to the survey described their overall experience of this service as good, compared to a local average of 71% and a national average of 77%. In addition, 84% stated their experience of contacting the practice was good overall and 83% stated it was easy to contact the practice on the phone, and 93% stated the receptionists were helpful. All of these results were both above local and national averages.
The practice was open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm, with access to out-of-hours services during evenings and weekends. Reception staff supported by guidance directed patients who contacted the practice to GP appointments or the pharmacy service. At the time of our assessment, urgent appointments were available each day and routine appointments were available within 10 working days. The practice manager told us all online patient submissions were reviewed on the day of receipt.
The practice also provided longer appointments for patients with more complex needs or for those with a learning disability or mental health condition to support equitable access to care. Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor and there was level access to the practice.
Patients unable to leave their homes were visited regularly or when any changes occurred.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
The 2026 National GP Patient Survey showed that 94% of patients felt their needs were met, compared with a local average (87%) and a national average (92%). The provider had systems in place to support the registration of vulnerable groups, including people experiencing homelessness. They also provided premises to enable secondary care staff to deliver vaccination clinics.
Patients who were unable to leave their home without significant assistance were discussed at a monthly multidisciplinary team meeting to support and improve their healthcare experience.
The practice had reasonable adjustments in place to support patients' needs, including a hearing loop, hospital passport for patients with learning disabilities, high-backed chairs, electric examination couches, and wheelchair access. To improve care for patients at high risk of developing diabetes, the practice implemented fortnightly prediabetes clinics. Patients received lifestyle advice on exercise, weight management and diet, and were offered referral to the Healthier You programme, and had their weight and BMI assessed.Planning for the future
