During an assessment under our new approach
Dates of assessment: 19 February 2026 to 6 March 2026. Alexander House provides residential care to up to 20 older people, including people living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 14 people living at the service. We visited on 19 February 2026 and 23 February 2026. The service was rated good when it was last inspected in 2019. It was the age of this rating that prompted this assessment.
People’s safety was maintained because there were good systems in place for reporting and responding to accidents, incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns. Potential risks to people had been assessed, managed and reviewed when needed. There were enough staff with the right training and support to meet people’s needs. Medicines were managed safely and staff maintained high levels of cleanliness which resulted in effective infection control.
Staff maintained positive partnership working with external professionals to ensure people’s care was effective and people’s health needs were met. People were supported to have choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
Care plans were personalised, reflected people’s care needs, and were reviewed with people and, where appropriate, their families.
We observed positive interactions between staff and people and staff treated people with dignity and respect.
The management team completed regular audits and checks of all aspects of the quality and safety of the service. The management team were accessible and approachable and were committed to driving improvements and providing a person-centred, high-quality service.
