The provider worked with people and healthcare partners to understand what being safe meant to them and the best way to achieve that. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety, free from bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, avoidable harm and neglect. The provider shared concerns quickly and appropriately.

Staff understood how to keep people safe and felt confident they could protect them from abuse. They were also aware of how to report any safeguarding concerns. Safeguarding incidents had been reported to the Local Authority in a timely way and reported to CQC.

The provider worked with people to understand and manage risks by thinking holistically. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them.

Risks to each person were assessed, and care records clearly outlined the risks to their health and wellbeing, and the actions needed to reduce them. These were reviewed monthly. People and relatives told us they felt risks in the home were managed safely. One person told us, “Definitely safe never had to raise concerns about safety.”

The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs.

Staff had received up to date training and felt equipped to do their jobs, however some staff told us more training regarding mental health would be beneficial to them. Staff said they had regular supervisions.. Recruitment processes were robust, including checks of employment history, right to work and Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
