Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Staff promote people’s independence by supporting them to lead their daily routines in ways that reflected their personal preferences. Support was offered only where it was needed and in ways people felt comfortable with. One relative told us, “[Person] does a lot themselves; they have their medication given in a pot and they take it independently. Staff will make them a hot meal in the evening, as [person] has a fridge, they can access themselves.”
People had access to activities and social opportunities with staff respecting personal preferences, including when people choose not to participate. Celebrations and routines were tailored to each person.
