Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People’s care plans identified where they needed support from the care workers and where they were able to complete care tasks independently. The care plans provided guidance for care workers on how to provide support. People and relatives said they felt the care workers were kind, caring and supported people to maintain their independence. Relatives comments included, “They take [family member] for walks and shopping and encourage them to eat by themself” and [Care workers] help [family member] getting showered and dry them and encourage them to dry where they can reach.” A care worker said, “Yes [we support people’s independence], for example, one of the clients with dementia likes to chop salad, so we can support them to do this independently. Another client used to do gardening so I support them to do as much as they can in the garden under supervision.”
