Shared direction and culture

The service had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality and human rights, diversity and inclusion, engagement, and understanding challenges and the needs of people and their communities.

The service consisted of a small staff team and the management team who communicated through regular supervisions and a digital messaging platform.

The management and staff were committed to the service and providing the best care to people. The service worked consistently to promote independence for people and deliver safe and reliable care.

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

The management team was open and honest throughout the inspection. The provider was in the process of recruiting a new registered manager.

Staff had access to an anonymous channel to provide feedback. Recent staff survey results were positive, and the management told us they were in the process of implementing actions from the survey.

Staff confirmed they could provide feedback to the management team.

Freedom to speak up

The service fostered a positive culture where people felt they could speak up and their voice would be heard.

Staff confirmed they knew how to whistle blow and felt they would be listened to. Staff told us they knew how to report concerns to external organisations if necessary.

The service had a policy for raising concerns and staff received appropriate training.

Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion

The service valued diversity in their workforce. They worked towards an inclusive and fair culture by improving equality and equity for people who work for them.

The staff team was small and worked closely with the management of the service. Records viewed during the inspection confirmed staff received supervisions. The management team was planning to introduce regular team meetings to enhance the team culture. Policies and procedures reinforced the service’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Governance, management and sustainability

The service managed and delivered good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and share this securely with others when appropriate.

Governance systems were operated effectively. The management team used systems to monitor care delivery and staff activity, ensuring accountability and continuity of care.

The electronic care planning system supported the management team to maintain regulatory compliance.

Partnerships and communities

The service understood their duty to collaborate and work in partnership, so services work seamlessly for people.

People’s needs were assessed and detailed in their care plans. Records viewed during the inspection confirmed care plans were regularly reviewed. The service used an electronic care planning system, which meant information was kept up to date and easily available.

At the time of this inspection, people were not receiving input from external professionals.

Learning, improvement and innovation

The service focused on continuous learning, innovation and improvement across the organisation and local system.

The service ensured people and their families were involved in developing and evaluating improvement.

The management team was keen to learn and develop the best possible systems to ensure their staff were safely recruited and effectively trained.
