Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the caring key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People were supported to understand their rights and were involved in developing their own care. Where relatives or advocates were involved, this was recorded appropriately. Support plans set out what people could do for themselves and where they needed support. People’s preferences, goals and aspirations were also included and linked to daily tasks.
Records did not always show the outcomes people had achieved. However, we saw that people were doing the things they enjoyed, both at home and through outside activities. Staff had received training on enabling people to be more actively involved, and the provider told us this was part of their approach. During our visit we saw some examples where staff were doing tasks for people rather than enabling them to take part more fully.
We discussed this with the provider, who was confident that staff involved people in their care. They told us they would carry out further observations to ensure this approach was consistently embedded into practice.
