Score: 3

We did not look at Kindness, compassion and dignity during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. The provider had made improvements to ensure people’s care plans reflected their individual needs, preferences, and daily routines. Important information about people’s communication needs and preferences were included and available to staff. People told us how staff understood their individual needs and provided care in line with their preferences. One person told us, “They always do my care in the way I want it done”, and another person told us, “I am really happy with my current care and if I don’t want them [staff] to give me a shower they are very good about it. I have no issues regarding what they do for me.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. The provider had improved the way information from assessments was used, and key details were clearly recorded within people’s care plans and accessible to staff. This meant staff had the guidance they needed to support people to make their own decisions and maintain as much independence as possible. For example, people’s care plans set out what people could manage independently and where they required support and assistance.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. The provider had strengthened the way they recorded and reviewed people’s needs, views and wishes. For example, when people experienced a fall or a change in their health, their care plans and risk assessments were reviewed and promptly updated to ensure care continued to meet their needs safely. This meant staff were working with accurate, up‑to‑date guidance to support people safely following any change in their immediate needs.
