Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. People’s ethnicity, religion and cultural preferences were identified in their care plans and staff supported people to celebrate events which were important to them. The registered managers confirmed staff completed training on equality, diversity and human rights. Staff supported people to maintain links with their religious community and helped with visits to churches and mosques. Staff explained how they ensured people were treated equally and with respect. Staff told us they ensured, during group meals, the food provided met everyone’s religious and cultural requirements. If a person wanted to visit their place of worship with a staff member, they would be supported by a staff member with the same religious beliefs. A monthly dignity audit was completed by senior staff. The audit monitored staff completion of training on dignity and respect, people were involved in their care plan reviews and regular spot checks were carried out on the care provided to ensure staff were supporting people’s wishes and rights.
