Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 24 March 2026. Collingwood Ear Care is an earwax removal service provided by a registered nurse. The service covers West Northumberland and provides home visits. This is the first assessment for this location since their registration with CQC.
The service had a good learning culture and clients could raise concerns. Any incidents were investigated thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. The provider understood and managed risks. Equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. The provider had the right skills, qualifications and experience.
Clients were involved in assessments of their needs. The provider reviewed assessments, taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. The provider made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. The provider protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and treatment.
People were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the service took it seriously and acted on it. The service was easy to access and worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment.
The provider understood their roles and responsibilities. They worked to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. We received 17 feedback forms from clients, of which 16 were entirely positive. The other 1 contained some positive and some negative comments. We also saw 2 feedback forms that had been collected by the provider, both of which were positive. Clients described the service as kind and caring, and highlighted good care in the elderly and for those with dementia.
