Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Staff were kind and caring and treated people with dignity. A person told us, “All the staff are polite and respectful.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Care plans included details about people preferences for support including information about religious and cultural preferences. People confirmed staff followed their preferences for care.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People were involved in all stages of the care planning process and were able to state their preferences for care, which staff followed.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. Care plans were regularly reviewed, and people were asked for their feedback on care to ensure that any changes in need were identified and addressed quickly. Records evidenced the service worked with health and social care professionals where required.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they were happy in their roles and felt supported by the management team. Staff told us, “Managers are supportive, we have 1-1 meetings to see how we are getting on” and “I feel supported by managers, I can ask them anything, the manager is kind and humble.”
