At the inspection on 4 July 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

Improvements have been made to ensure the appropriate and safe management of medicines. The practice dispensed prescription-only medication, including antibiotics, to patients. They had an effective stock control system in place to monitor medications held on site or to identify any discrepancies or missing medication. In addition, the antimicrobial prescribing log had been consistently maintained. The medication dispensing labels were now available and included all required information.

Systems were now in place to ensure the premises were safe. The required servicing documentation was readily available for review, including the validation and Written Scheme of Examination reports for the autoclave and compressor, and the current gas safety certificate.

At the inspection on 4 July 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

The practice had implemented improved processes to ensure that persons providing the care and treatment to patients had the qualifications, competence, skills and experience to do so safely. Since the last inspection, the practice had recruited 1 dentist, 1 dental hygienist and 1 dental therapist. The practice manager conducted regular appointment book audits to ensure clinicians were working within their scope of professional practice.

The practice had a recruitment policy and procedures that reflected relevant legislation. The required recruitment documentation was available for the recently recruited members of staff. Newly appointment staff received a structured induction, and records of this were appropriately maintained.

At the inspection on 4 July 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

The decontamination process staff demonstrated reflected published guidance outlined in in the Department of Health publication ‘Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in primary care dental practices’ (HTM01-05). A dedicated handwashing facility was now available in the decontamination room, and staff used appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including heavy-duty gloves, for the decontamination process. Tools used for manual cleaning were in line with best practice guidance. Containers used to transport instruments for decontamination and those for sterilised instruments were clearly marked for their respective purposes.

Improvements could be made to ensure staff removed sterilised items from the autoclave immediately to separate them from instruments awaiting sterilisation. We brought this to the provider`s attention and they submitted evidence that that infection control procedures had been reinforced by updating the infection prevention and control policy and discussing the update during a team meeting. In addition, further infection prevention and control training had been booked for staff to refresh their knowledge and reinforce decontamination procedures.

Records were available to confirm that daily and weekly tests on the autoclave were carried out in line with the manufacturer`s instructions, or in the absence of such instructions, in line with the guidance set out in HTM01-05.

Further improvements could be made to ensure records were maintained for the disinfection of laboratory work and returned devices were disinfected before use. In addition, the practice should carry out quarterly efficacy tests on the ultrasonic cleaner.
