During an inspection looking at part of the service

At a previous inspection on 31 March 2014, we identified minor concerns with the management of medicines. We found that controlled drugs (which are strong drugs which require extra administration checks) were not always kept safely. Other drugs and materials were stored in a fridge however there were no temperature control checks in place to ensure the drugs were being kept in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The provider subsequently sent us an action plan to say how they were going to become compliant with the Health and Social Care Act (2008) Regulations 2010.

At this follow up inspection, we carried out checks to ensure the provider had met their action plan.

We found they had met the action plan and now medications requiring refrigeration were managed safely and controlled drugs were now stored in a lockable cupboard.

31 March 2014

During an inspection in response to concerns

We looked at staff records and saw evidence that all staff had been trained to the level their positions required and that they had completed training in other appropriate courses, relative to their role.

Care and treatment was carried out in line with current best practice and clinical plans were clearly documented.

The provider had ensured all regulatory and legal requirements had been met in regards to radiological equipment.

People were treated in a clean environment and arrangements were in place for the safe decontamination of reusable instruments and equipment.

We found some minor improvements were required to ensure the safe storage of medicines.

Records were held securely.

29 October 2012

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection, there were no patients available for us to speak with at Apollonia Dental and Cosmetic Centre. However we spoke with two people who used the service on the telephone and saw evidence of returned comments cards from people who used the service, which gave positive feedback. One person we spoke with told us the service they received was, "first class in every way", and another told us," all the staff are friendly and they give you a good explanation about what they are doing".

During our visit we saw that the treatment rooms, decontamination room, waiting area and other communal areas were clean and tidy. People who used the service were given clear information about the treatment they would receive and how much it would cost. There were suitable arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies and all staff had been provided with suitable training and support with which to undertake their roles and responsibilities.
