Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. We observed that staff promoted people’s independence when supporting them. For example, we saw people preparing their breakfasts, washing up afterwards and getting themselves ready to attend planned activities. People were provided with choices of daily activities they preferred to take part in. One person told us they were able to take part in lots of activities, they said they attended music classes, and they were going out to a dance group. Three other people told us they were going indoor bowling, and they were looking forward to a garden party the coming weekend. A relative commented, “I am very pleased with the activities the service offers my loved one. There is a comprehensive range of activities. My loved one really enjoys dance classes.” Another relative told us, “There is a lot of variety when it comes to activities at the service, my loved one enjoys them all.”
