The provider had systems to ensure that people who used the service received person-centred, care and treatment, which was appropriate, met their needs and was reflective of their personal preferences.

Preventive oral health care was encouraged.

Staff generally had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

We looked at a sample of dental care records. The information recorded in these dental care records was not consistently in line with recognised guidance.

Clinicians inconsistently justified, graded and reported on the radiographs they took.

We saw dental care record templates being used, some of which did not accurately represent the events that took place during appointments.

Not all staff understood their responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Records were not available to demonstrate that all staff undertook training relating to the Mental Capacity Act in practice.

The practice had systems for prescribing of medicines in line with current guidance. Antimicrobial prescribing audits were carried out. Antimicrobial prescribing audits did not contain sufficient detail which meant that areas for improvement could not be directed appropriately.

Where applicable, patients were referred to primary and secondary care specialists for treatment the practice did not provide. This included referring patients with suspected cancer under the national faster diagnosis standard.
