The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

People and their relatives said staff treated them with kindness and compassion when providing care. One relative told us, “Those familiar to her (especially the pink ladies) help her feel settled. We appreciate their efforts to maintain her dignity, especially when handling personal care or distressing delusions. Communication with the family is respectful and prompt.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People and their relatives were able to express their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and support. Care plans were individualised and contained information on what support people required and what they were able to do themselves. One staff member told us, “When undressed [name of person] has the dignity in the shower with the shower curtain, she always is covered with a towel or gown exiting. I keep the process moving by talking so they don’t get to feel uncomfortable or in a state of undress.”

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

Care plans were person centred and clearly described what support and care people wanted and what they were able and wanted to do for themselves. Care plans evidenced people’s involvement in planning their care and support.
