Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The management team always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Families told us staff who visited had a caring attitude, treated their family members kindly and had formed positive relationships due to the continuity of support. One relative told us, “My [family member] is very happy with staff. They have a rapport and continuity in place which is helping.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The management team treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care plans held unique and personal information on each person. Relatives we spoke with felt their family members received care that met their individualised needs. Staff received additional training to ensure they were skilled and competent in meeting people’s individual needs.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The management team promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People were supported to have choice and control when being supported by staff. For example, one care plan guided staff on how to engage in positive interactions and how facial expressions could show if they were happy or agitated.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The management team listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

Staff supported people and knew their needs and how to support them well. They said there was good communication within the staff team if needs changed for people. One relative told us, “They [staff] are trained very well, they know what they are doing.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff felt valued, were listened to and had access to support if they needed it. Morale was high and staff praised the leadership and teamwork from the management team.

The office had access to a multi faith prayer room which was available to staff. This provided staff a dedicated space for religious observance or quiet reflection.
