Well-led – this means we looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture.

 

This is the first assessment for this service. This key question has been rated good.

 

This meant the service was consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.

Shared direction and culture

There was a positive culture at the service. Recruitment processes included assessments of staff values. Staff received training to understand about person-centred care. Staff liked working at the service and told us they were committed to the provider’s aims. They spoke positively about the people they cared for. Their comments included, “The best thing about working here is the amazing clients” and “I feel blessed to care for these people.”

 

The provider obtained regular feedback from people using the service and relatives. This consistently showed people were happy and received good care. Relatives told us they would recommend the agency to others. A relative commented, “I would recommend them because they put my relative at the centre of everything they do.”

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

The registered manager was suitably experienced and had a management qualification. Before they started their role, they had shadowed another registered manager in a different care agency to gain experience and understand the role. Staff told us they felt supported by the registered manager.

 

Relatives told us they knew who the registered manager was and felt they were approachable. A relative commented, “I know the manager and [they] are really nice.”

Freedom to speak up

The provider had systems to enable staff and others to speak up if they had any concerns. Staff understood these and told us they were confident to raise concerns.

Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion

The provider had procedures to support workforce equality and diversity. Staff told us the provider was flexible and supported them when they needed time of work.

Governance, management and sustainability

The provider had effective systems for monitoring the quality of the service. They asked stakeholders for feedback, carried out reviews of care and assessments of staff. They also conducted audits of care records and medicines management.

The registered manager told us they had a network of support from other local registered managers who they shared learning with.

The provider encouraged staff to undertake a range of training to improve their knowledge and skills.
