At this assessment we looked at 3 quality statements and the rating has remained good. This meant people were safe and protected from avoidable harm.

Safeguarding

The provider worked with people and healthcare partners to understand what being safe meant to them and the best way to achieve that. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety, free from bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, avoidable harm, and neglect. The provider shared concerns quickly and appropriately. People told us they felt safe. One person said, "I feel safe here I have been in worse places in the past and not always felt safe before but I never feel uneasy here, definitely feel safe.” Another person said, "I feel more than safe here I didn't always feel safe in the community but here it’s safe very safe.” A third person said, “Yes, really safe, I have a support worker and psychiatrist who also come and support me it’s a big team I get support from lots of places; I am safe, and I am happy here.” The provider had policies in place, and we saw concerns were investigated to ensure lessons were learnt and risks were mitigated.

Involving people to manage risks

The provider worked with people to understand and manage risks by thinking holistically. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive, and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them. Staff supported people to make decisions in relation to their care and support. Processes were in place to ensure risks were safely managed. Risk assessments were clear and regularly reviewed and updated. Risks relating to complex support needs were in place with actions for staff to follow to support each person in their preferred way.

Safe and effective staffing

The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled, and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision, and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs. Staff recruitment processes were in place with relevant checks of staff’s employment history, character, right to work, and checks with the disclosure and barring service (DBS).

Staff we spoke with overall felt there were enough staff in place to support people. One staff member said, "We put contingency in place for weekends and out of hours. Our handovers are thorough and valuable in supporting with out of hours. We have a ‘better safe than sorry’ policy to follow.” Another staff member said, "There is mainly enough staff on shift.” People we spoke with told us they felt there were enough staff to support them. Comments included, "Staff are approachable and nice to us, they are kind and help us. The support is great, couldn't ask for better staff to support me” and "Staff are really nice here. They really support me so much at the moment, more than they probably realise. They know us, they know us well and know we need support some days more than others. They are supportive telling me I am resilient and strong enough. They encourage me so much just by letting me talk and by listening sometimes.”
