Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. One staff member described their role as, “Supporting people to make choices and live the best life they can,” demonstrating a strong caring culture.

People were encouraged to take part in everyday activities and routines. A relative told us, “Staff help him to be involved in housework, they push the hoover around,” showing how staff supported meaningful engagement and independence. Staff respected people’s dignity and privacy and gave examples of closing doors and curtains when delivering care to support this.

People were supported to maintain relationships with family and others important to them. Feedback from relatives indicated people were comfortable and relaxed, and care was delivered in a way that promoted wellbeing and individuality.
