This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
People and relatives that we spoke with all told us staff were caring, and we observed kind interactions between people and staff. Comments included, “[Staff] treat me well, they’re good, nice and friendly” and “They’re lovely and kind, very much so”. Staff spoke about people with kindness and compassion.
Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
The service promoted people’s independence, supported them to know their rights and have choice and control over their lives, for example their right to vote. Before an election, the service sought accessible manifestos from each political party to support people to engage with the democratic process and make an informed if they wished to. When manifestos were not available in an accessible format, the service developed their own and introduced these at weekly resident meetings. This meant people were provided with information from all parties and enabled and empowered them to make an informed choice.
A person told us, “I have complete control”, and a relative said “It’s all about [person], they look after him and it’s all about him”.
A member of the management team said, “It’s about not making decisions for them [people living at the home], giving them choice, remembering that this is their home and ultimately what we think is right may not always be what’s right for them”.
