Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.

Care plans were detailed and reflected people’s personal choices relating to the treatment and care they received. Where people’s needs changed records were updated quickly. One staff member told us: “Yes, we review to check what [peoples] needs are”

People’s communication needs were appropriately assessed. The provider had an Accessible Information and Communication policy in place which included training for new staff. Staff knew how to support people who could not communicate verbally. Feedbackfrom staff included, “Now we can interact with signs."

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment.

Staff understood capacity and consent and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) training was in place.

People and relatives told us staff always asked for consent before providing support. One person told us, "They don't just go ahead and do things, they always ask first."
