Our rating for safe improved. We rated safe as good.

The service promoted a good culture of learning, where both staff and patients felt able to raise concerns. Managers carried out investigations into incidents and learned lessons from them. Patients were kept safe, as staff had a clear understanding of local safeguarding processes. The department had sufficient staff with the appropriate skills, qualifications, and experience to deliver high-quality care and treatment.

Managers ensured staff completed relevant training and received regular appraisals to support the delivery of safe and effective care. Medicines were handled safely, and staff were able to recognise and respond appropriately to any unexpected deterioration in a patient’s condition. Environmental risks were understood and managed. Facilities and equipment were suitable for patients’ needs, clean, well maintained, and any identified risks were addressed.
