Kindness, compassion and dignity

Staff treated people with kindness, compassion and respect. People and their relatives had good relationships with staff. Comments from relatives included, “Care workers are all sweet and charming”, “[Care workers] will do anything we ask and willingly” and “They are all diligent, caring and never rush.” Relatives told us staff respected people’s privacy and dignity.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Staff treated people as individuals. The manager created personalised care plans. Relatives told us staff followed these. They told us staff provided care which reflected individual needs and preferences. Their comments included, “[Manager] visited and asked us our preferences to help choose the right care workers”, “[Person’s] needs vary each day because of [their] condition. Staff understand this and provide flexible support” and “There is always someone familiar to support [person]. They are very patient and calm and take time to make sure [person] has [their] care.”

Independence, choice and control

Staff supported people to remain independent when they wanted, and this was safe. Relatives confirmed staff offered people choices and respected their decisions. A relative commented, “Staff listen to [person]. They respect [their] choices and always listen to what [person] wants.” A member of staff told us, “I support the same person, which has helped me to build a good relationship and a clear understanding of their daily routines and preferences.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider responded to people’s immediate needs. Staff, people using the service and relatives could contact the manager if needed anytime in an emergency. Relatives told us staff had been quick to respond when people became unwell or following accidents.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider supported staff wellbeing and enablement. The manager contacted staff daily to provide guidance and support if needed. They held regular meetings and had a range of systems for communicating with them. Staff told us they felt well supported. Comments from staff included, “I know who to go to if I need help or advice. The manager is approachable and available” and “I feel listened to and that concerns are taken seriously.”
