Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. Staff supported people to be empowered to make choices about their life.

During our visit we observed many positive and meaningful interactions, people appeared comfortable and relaxed when engaging with staff. It was evident that staff knew people well and adapted their approach to meet people’s communication needs. One staff member told us, “Yes, “Care plans are discussed with [the person] confidentially and individually to suit their abilities. To help understanding, pictures are used."

Planning for the future

Score: 3

People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life. This included documentation that reflected people’s decisions about what was important to them.

At the time of our inspection visit, the provider was carefully planning and considering options for the future of the service as the household was growing older and needs were changing. This was being thought through in discussion with people, staff and the funding authorities.
