Independence, choice and control
.
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People were given choices about the personal information that was shared about them. For example, the provider respected people’s wishes and preferences, we found when people had made decisions about who their personal information was shared with, this was respected and known by staff.
We observed warm, compassionate interactions between staff and people. The staff we spoke with demonstrated knowledge of the needs of the people that they were working with and were able to explain how they supported them in ways which promote independence, choice and control. One staff member told us that they and their colleagues know the person they work with so well because they have worked with them for a number of years. We spoke with staff at a variety of properties who had been working with the provider for several years, which meant a strong working relationship had developed between staff and people. This knowledge of the people they were working with allowed staff to support people in a way which promoted their independence, choice and control over their care.
