Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 9 to 17 July 2025. Godfrey Barnes Care SL Limited is registered to provide supported living services. They provide personal care to people with learning disabilities and autistic people living in their own homes. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

At the time of the inspection there were 8 people receiving regulated activity. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe recruitment practices. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. Staff provided safe care to meet people’s needs, and people’s care plans were regularly reviewed and updated when required. Medicines were managed safely, and we found there was enough staff available to meet people's needs.

We found the staff to be passionate about supporting people to achieve positive outcomes and they demonstrated a good understanding of equality and diversity and understood the barriers people could face. We found the provider ensured that a person-centred approach was used across the service, with each property and staff group tailored to meet the needs of the individual they were working with. The provider ensured staff were aware of their vision and values and we found the management team to be knowledgeable and experienced; they demonstrated good management oversight of the service. Management were proactive in ensuring that staff understood the people they were working with and supported them in a person-centred way.

People's experience of this service

The people we spoke with were positive about the service they received, in particular, the range of activities and support they were offered. People told us they felt safe. People who were unable to communicate their feelings about the service were observed to be content in the environment that they lived in and we observed warm interactions between staff and people.

Overall relatives were positive about the care that their family member received. Relatives felt that their family members lived fulfilled lives with plenty of activities. The majority of relatives were positive about the staff and management, however some relatives felt the provider did not communicate with them enough about their family member. When we raised this with the provider they advised us they share information and communicate what they are able to with family members, but they were also mindful of people’s right to privacy. The provider showed us evidence of processes to demonstrate people were asked on a regular basis what information they would like sharing with their family.
