We rated effective as requires improvement. We assessed 2 quality statements. We Most patients needs were assessed appropriately and staff provided examples of how they worked well together.

However, the service did not always maximise the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment. Staff told us relationships could improve with other areas of the hospital and with other care providers.

During the inspection, we observed most patients needs were assessed. However, the service did not always maximise the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health and care needs with them.

There were occasions whilst on inspection where patients with high news scores had regular delays in their observations in both Majors and Resus.

The service did not always maximise the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health and care needs with them. Audits we requested demonstrated that compliance with NEWS shows that improvement is needed at the service. The trust were aware of this concern and improvement actions had commenced to improve performance.

Staff told us that they mostly worked effectively across teams and services to support people, but there was room for improvement. Staff told us relationships could improve with other areas of the hospital and with other care providers to avoid patient admission to the department and improve flow out of the department.
