Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
The provider must ensure there is adequate clinical oversight and leadership within the waiting area of the emergency department, including ensuring that there is a sufficient number (based on demand) of suitably qualified, competent, skilled and experienced clinical staff within the waiting room to rapidly identify and escalate deteriorating patients.
The registered provider must implement a robust system and process to record patients from when they cross the threshold of the emergency department. This should include sufficient patient details to enable effective triage.
The registered provider must ensure that there are effective governance processes in place, to ensure changes to policies, procedures and practices are communicated to all staff within the emergency department in a timely way.
By 21 January 2025, the registered provider must provide details to Care Quality Commission of:
a) The system in place to record patients from the time they cross the threshold of the emergency department. This should include sufficient patient details to enable effective triage.
b) The system in place to ensure there is adequate clinical oversight and leadership within the waiting area of the emergency department, including ensuring that there is a sufficient number (based on demand) of suitably qualified, competent, skilled and experienced clinical staff within the waiting room to rapidly identify and escalate deteriorating patients.
c) The governance processes in place, to ensure changes to policies, procedures and practices are communicated to all staff within the emergency department in a timely way.
On the last Friday of each month, the registered provider must send a report to Care Quality Commission which relates to data for that month and includes the following:
a) The actions taken to ensure the systems referred to in conditions 1, 2 and 3 above are effective
b) Details of any monitoring data or audits undertaken to ensure that the systems in conditions 1, 2 and 3 above are effective
