Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 10 March to 23 March 2026
St Edmunds is a domiciliary care agency registered to provide personal care to people living in their own homes. The short-term rapid response service provides personal care to people in their own home for up to 7 days until a longer-term care package could be sourced. The re-ablement team provide care for up to 6 weeks with the aim of supporting people to regain their independence. At the time of this assessment, 44 people were receiving personal care from the service. We carried out an offsite assessment.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
At the time of the assessment, the service was not supporting any autistic people or people with a learning disability, but the provider had regard to the principles and values of ‘Right support, right care, right culture’.
People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. Staff knew people well and had the right skills and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff raised concerns about people’s health quickly. They worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. People were involved in decisions about their care. Staff completed detailed records of people’s changing needs. Some improvements were needed to ensure care plans contained clear information for staff to follow.
Professionals who worked with the service told us it was well-led, provided good care to people and was responsive.The service was currently making some changes to the management structure, and they had plans for further improvement.
People's experience of this service
People told us they felt safe and were happy with the care and support they received. Comments included, “Everyone is most helpful. Anything they can possibly do to help is done” and “They’re very professional.” People told us they had been involved in their care planning. Comments included, “Brilliant service” and “I can’t praise them enough.”
Several people told us they were unsure who to contact about the service and what would happen with their care following this service. The registered manager told us people were given information at the start of the service. They said they would review how this information was communicated to people.
