We carried out this assessment between 20 April 2026 to 05 May 2026. This assessment was carried out in response to our previous assessment in September 2025 whereby we served 3 warning notices due to Geocare Services being in breach of legal regulations. Geocare Services Limited is a domiciliary care agency providing personal care to adults of all ages, people with dementia, people living with physical disabilities and sensory impairments. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. At the time of our inspection there were 59 people in receipt of personal care. The provider’s systems were not always effective in ensuring people received safe care and treatment. Systems to review and monitor medicines were not always effective and did not always ensure medicines were administered safely. There was a lack of effective governance. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 was not effectively applied, and we found no evidence of mental capacity assessments or best interest decisions. This limited people's ability to be involved in decisions about their care and reduced opportunities for promoting autonomy and wellbeing. We found risks to people were not fully assessed and risk assessments were not always in place to guide staff to support people safely and effectively. Some care plans lacked detail and did not consistently reflect people's current care needs.
Some people were not always sure when staff would arrive, which reduced confidence in the reliability of visit timings. However, people and families described staff as kind and respectful, and said staff responded appropriately to their needs during visits. Staff were supported through training; however, staff had not all completed training relevant to people’s assessed needs such as training in oxygen management. However, the provider had carried out relevant checks such as criminal record checks before staff started as well as carrying out home office right to work in the UK checks. The provider was in breach of3 legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, the need for consent and good governance. In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we user our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.
