Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
People were supported to have choice and control over their care, whether individual aspects of day-to-day personal care, or bigger decisions.
One person’s relative, who previously visited regularly, was less mobile due to an injury. The registered manager recognised this and offered the person a change of room, so they could be on the ground floor and much more easily receive visits from the relative. They said, “The care couldn’t be any better. They saw a problem with me seeing my relative in my room, so moved me to a better location within the home and it’s marvellous.”
People were always treated with patience, compassion and respect. Staff interacted personably with people and clearly understood their personalities, building bonds through rapport and humour. We observed positive, warm and friendly interactions between staff and people on both days of our visit.
One person said, “The care is good here – the staff are lovely.” One relative said, “The atmosphere is lovely and always friendly faces.” People received care and support from a regular team of staff, without reliance on agency staff.
Policies, systems and processes supported people to have the right to have choice and control.
