At our last assessment we rated this key question good. We have not changed the rating of this key question, as we have only looked at the part of the key question we had specific concerns about.

The provider did not always detect and control potential risks in the care environment. They did not always make sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care.

Following a visit from the fire service it was identified there were significant failings in the management of the risks from fire at the home. We found the provider had responded promptly and arrange for remedial work to be carried out. Improvements had been made to the fire detection and alarm system. Several fire doors had been replaced, and this work was ongoing. Repairs had been made to fire resistant walls in the attic to prevent the spread of fire. Redundant pipework from an old ventilation system had been removed.

Whilst the remedial work was being carried out, the provider had increased nighttime staffing levels to ensure there were sufficient staff to evacuate the building in an emergency. Evacuation plans were also amended, and staff had been given the opportunity to practise and familiarise themselves with them.

The provider had commissioned a new fire risk assessment to be completed after the remedial work was completed to ensure they were compliant with fire legislation and all risks were controlled adequately.

We did not look at Medicines optimisation during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Safe.
