Our view of the service
Inspection activity started on 29 April 2025, and we visited the service on 30 April 2025. Meadowbrook Care Home is a care home for up to 69 people, including younger and older adults, physical disabilities, mental health and dementia. There were 65 people living at the care home at the time of our visit. The inspection was triggered by concerns shared by the Fire Service who had issued the provider with an urgent enforcement notice. We carried out a targeted inspection, which meant we only looked at part of the key questions we had specific concerns about. We found the provider had responded promptly to the enforcement notice. Fire doors identified as ineffective were in the process of being replaced. Repairs had been made to the fire resisting compartments in the roof spaces. Staffing levels at nighttime had been increased whilst remedial work was taking place to ensure effective evacuation could take place in an emergency. Evacuation plans had been revised to ensure they were effective during the remedial works and staff had been given the opportunity to practice them. A new fire risk assessment had been commissioned. Governance systems had failed to identify the deficiencies in the fire safety provisions at the home.
People's experience of this service
People and their families had been informed about the improvements required to the fire safety arrangements at the home. Remedial work had been planned to minimise the impact on people living at the home, for example, contractors were not allowed to start until 9.30 in the morning. People we spoke with told us they felt safe living at the home.
