During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 21 May 2025 when we first visited the service. We conducted a further site visit on 4 June 2025, the specialist advisor collated information remotely from the provider on 26 and 27 May and assessment activity concluded on 4 June 2025. On the last day of assessment 25 people lived at Copperfield’s.
At our last assessment we found the provider needed to make improvements to their supervision records, care records and governance systems. At this assessment we found improvements had been made. We did discuss with the registered manager in relation to the roll out of the new electronic system for care records which had been in place just over a month at the service ensuring this was embedded fully on one unit before rolling out to the others. This would ensure that all information had been transferred over, and staff would be familiar with the systems. We found some areas which needed embedding further, however this did not impact the people at the service. The registered manager had identified some areas of improvement and lessons learnt had been completed around this.
We found staff had the right training to be able to support people. We found staff received appropriate supervisions and team meetings where they were able to feedback any concerns or implement changes. We found care records we looked at reflected people’s care. Staff echoed this on assessment. One staff member said, “We know people well and their care needs, anything changes we make sure the care plan reflects that.” The provider had introduced a new electronic system to complete audits and improve ways of working, to better identify, review and manage risk.
The provider had a good learning culture and people, staff and relatives could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents appropriately. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and knew how to manage risks to peoples care needs.
