James Burns House is a care home providing personal care for up to 21 people. The service provides specialist care for people with a physical disability, some of whom are living with a learning disability or an additional need. This was a planned inspection, and we included all the quality statements under each of the 5 key questions. The inspection took place on the 8 December and 9 December 2025. At the time of this inspection, there were 18 people living at the service. Safe systems at the service helped protect people from avoidable harm. The service had effective safeguarding procedures in place. The service learned from accidents, incidents and events to help drive improvement and embed good practice. Recruitment processes were in place to ensure checks were carried out on staff before they commenced their employment. There were enough staff, who were suitably skilled to provide care. Staff were kind and caring and treated people with dignity and respect. People had access to a range of activities which they enjoyed. People had access to health and social care professionals to support their wellbeing. People’s rights were fully respected, and consent was sought. People received their medicines as prescribed, and processes for ensuring safe monitoring of medicines were strengthened during the inspection. Feedback was sought from everyone, and this was used to shape the service. Governance systems were in place to ensure oversight of the service. There was confidence in the registered manager and management team. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. People had enough to eat and drink and had a variety of options.
