Requires improvement

Updated 2 July 2024

UK Specialist Care Ltd is a domiciliary care agency registered to provide personal care to people in their own homes. The service provides support to people of all ages and different abilities. At the time of assessment, the service provided care to 3 people who received personal care.

Assessment activity started on 28 August 2024. This was the first assessment of the service. We looked at 5 key questions: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

During the assessment we found 3 breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment. Care plans were in place to support people to manage risks but we found that risk assessments lacked detail and required further detail, so risks were managed effectively. Care plans and risk assessments were not regularly reviewed and there was no evidence of people being involved in the planning of their care. The provider’s governance systems had not identified or addressed the areas of improvement we found during this inspection. Although we found these concerns there were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. The registered manager made sure staff received training and regular support to maintain high-quality care. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 2 July 2024

We received mixed feedback from people about the service. Relatives were not always aware of peoples care plans or the schedule of people’s care, and they did not feel they were communicated with as often as expected. Although relatives had some concerns, they were positive about the care workers and felt people received safe care. Feedback confirmed people received support from regular care workers and staff stayed for the full duration of the calls and were competent. People’s relatives told us care workers treated people with respect and dignity and were caring. Comments included “Very much so. [Care worker] has a professional relationship with [person] and they are very good with [person] and “The three carers that are here have their strengths and weaknesses, but we are happy, there is consistency, they know what to do. [Person] says [their] happy, and gets happy when they come in, laughing and chattering.”
